And specifically the track ‘Fanfares’ off his new record, of which I first heard on Pitchfork of all places. There’s something about this song that requires me to play it over and over again, and then when I’m not located at a listening station, play it in my mind over and over and over again. I guess that’s what a good pop song does, leave its imprint on your brain. This ’song’ is far from pop. It’s totally creepy and unsettling, but at the same time, really pleasureable in its own way. It’s like Jeck deliberately sought to make something I’d listen to 1000 times over. And he might come close.
